About the Customer

A leading manufacturer in the food & beverage sector, with over 4,000 employees and global presence in more than 100 countries.

The Challenge

Our customer embraced the Journey 2 Cloud project, the major project within their Technology Transformation Program, with the objective of shutting down 3 on-premise data centers and migrating all their enterprise workloads into a single cloud environment.

The migration project presented a high degree of complexity, due to the extremely heterogeneous composition of the on-premise infrastructure. The company had in fact a wide variety of solutions in place throughout their locations: from fully outsourced external data centers, to production plants and internally managed data centers.

Our customer was therefore seeking for a partner able to manage such complexity and smoothly transition to the cloud, migrating an impressive workload of hundreds of operating systems instances (Windows, AIX) and database instances (MSSQL, Oracle), near to 100 TB of storage and more than 50 applications.

Solution & Benefits

Leveraging our proprietary methodology and best practices, we ran a 3 months long assessment & planning phase and prepared the cloud foundation on Azure to host the workloads, migrated according to a 5 waves plan encompassing an elapsed of 7 months.

The migration waves mainly leveraged IAAS, Azure Migrate and Data Migration Assistant technologies to address the needs of Lift & Shift and Replatform, the two main adopted patterns.

By adopting Microsoft Azure, the company is now able to catch all the opportunities enabled by the public cloud: 

  • Consolidation into a single virtual data center with infrastructure innovation, granting scalability and ease of management  
  • Enhanced reliability and security with geographical disaster recovery
  • Increased agility and speed thanks to the Infrastructure-as-Code automation 
  • Significant reduction of energy consumption and carbon footprint, thanks to the high efficiency of Azure Datacenters
