In SAP S/4HANA, Business Partner (BP) is one of the most relevant master data object to pay attention to during a brownfield conversion. It describes Customers, Suppliers (Vendors), Employees, Enterprise entities (e.g. plants) and with 1809 even Business Users (check out note 2570961 - Simplification item S4TWL - Business User Management ).

Roberto, care to tell us a little about yourself?
Hi Sergio, thanks for having me here in our SAP S/4HANA Conversion blog series. I am an SAP consultant with around 8 years of experience and I like to take advantage of my technical background together with my interest for business processes optimization. I consider myself lucky under the professional point of view as I had the chance to challenge myself with a variety of SAP topics, different clients and environments and I am always looking forward to the next level.
Do you think the Business Partner is a positive successor of the Customer and Vendor Master Data transactions ?
Business Partner is a very interesting design concept in the new SAP ERP system. Having abstract entities which can be extended accordingly to one or multiple roles depending on the company business processes they are involved in and related to each other in a simple way, it makes the master data more consistent, avoiding duplicates and having its handling homogeneous. Customers and Vendors Integration is indeed not only a mandatory step for the conversion, but also the starting base for future extensions and roles definition.
Would you like to share any valuable lesson learned during your experience with the Conversion Factory?
It is important to see the Customer/Vendor Integration to Business Partners not merely like a technical mandatory step for the conversion, but as a chance to review the master data, solving inconsistencies and cleaning up data in order to make the system ready at its best to the conversion. This is important to have a working solution which consistently leverage on the new SAP S4/HANA functionalities and requires the CVI to be planned and designed in advance.
Can you tell us something about Techedge micro-CoE (Center of Excellence) focused on the Business Partner?
Sure, Business Partners is a core topic in the conversion to SAP S4/HANA and it is important to have a shared knowledge of the subject. I am part of the Techedge Group micro-CoE focused on Business Partners, working on multiple CVI and master data design projects and supporting other colleagues on the matter. We titled our Conversion team S4H LaunchPad Team.
How does the LaunchPad Team support customers into the Business Partner adoption?
Based on our experiences, Techedge LaunchPad Team created a set of accelerator tools which have been very useful in the design, execution and monitoring of the Customer/Vendor Integration (CVI). These assets were actually appreciated by our customers, which had the chance to use by themselves after the hands-on in order to analyze eventual exceptions and solve conversion scraps due to master data inconsistencies.
Last question, do you prefer SAP Fiori Business Partner Application or dear old /nBP transaction?
I honestly like them both. I may say that the /nBP transaction is easy to use, because I have seen it so many times, but on the other side the SAP Fiori Manage Business Partners offers a modern interface, which can make it more appealing to the end-users.
